Montgomery, Ala. (PRWEB) January 02, 2012

A statewide restaurant week spotlighting the Year of Alabama Food, two weekends of racing at Barber Motorsports Park and Talladega Superspeedway, a 40th celebration of holiday lights on the river in Demopolis and a movie honoring the Tuskegee Airmen are among the top 10 events in the 2012 Calendar of Events released today by the Alabama Tourism Department.

Nearly 400 events focusing on food take place in Alabama in 2012 during tourism?s Year of Food campaign. Four of top 10 events celebrate food ? Alabama Restaurant Week Aug. 17-26, the Red Diamond Restaurant Tour in Anniston Apr. 21, the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores Oct. 11-14, and an expanded Break ?N Bread food event in Birmingham on Oct. 14. Food events can be easily identified by a green tomato which is the official logo of the Year of Alabama Food. The tourism department will officially launch the Year of Alabama Food on January 27, in Birmingham.

?The top 10 events offer a wide range of activities across the state along with some award-winning food,? said director, Lee Sentell. ?They showcase a taste of what Alabama has to offer travelers and tourists.?

More than 1,400 events are listed in the 96-page publication and include top events for each month. The blue cover of the calendar of events features four photos: a 1953 blue Cadillac parked on a pier at Lake Guntersville; azaleas in bloom at Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile; food from Birmingham?s Restaurant Week, and the Tuskegee Airmen Museum.

The tourism department will also release a new ?100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die? brochure and will launch the first statewide BBQ Trail during Memorial Day weekend. The year of food was first celebrated in tourism?s 2005 campaign. The popularity of the year was crucial in the decision to bring it back for 2012.

Southern Living magazine will release its list of the ?Top 10 Tastiest Towns? on Dec. 23 that includes Birmingham, Alabama. The magazine will let readers decide the ?Tastiest Town in the South? from the top 10 list with online voting Dec. 23 ? Jan. 26 at http://www.southernliving.com/tasty. Freeview HD is not just about high-definition television, but also about catch-up TV and Internet applications. By making clever use of MHEG standard and the connectivity that is already built into every Freeview HD box, dozens of new television channels can be made available for the viewers on Freeview. Instead of broadcasting video streams these channels can contain MHEG applications which will use only a fraction of the bandwidth needed to broadcast video.

Global broadcasters, new TV channels, online channels, content owners and advertisers can easily reach niche audiences and expat communities with Freeview HD?s cutting edge technology.

Here are five distinct reasons why broadcasters should use Freeview HD:

Carlos Gallastegui: Christmas Star Events Proven and Explained by Researcher Using Nasa Astronomy Computer Programs

If you like this article please browse Carlos Gallastegui website for more interesting stories. In addition, please visit Carlos Gallastegui blog for more information!

Zanesville, OH (PRWEB) December 10, 2011

Irene Worthington Baron used over sixty NASA astronomy computer programs to search skies of 2,000-years ago for evidence and proof of the Christmas star. The author reports confirming each discovered birth announcement of Jesus Christ by using multiple astronomy computer programs.

The titles of the NASA computer programs used by the author are listed in the illustrated book, Unraveling the Christmas Star Mystery, at the URL: http://www.irenebaron.com, and at the end of this press release.

Ms. Baron stated, ?Just because a spectacular celestial event occurred in the dawn sky of 2,000- years ago did not mean it was part of Jesus Christ?s birth announcement. The event had to have the correct associated symbolism that was used by ancient priests, astronomers, astrologers, and cosmologists referring to the birth of the new and most powerful God to be born in the universe.?

The author correlated interpretations of celestial symbols and symbolic events used by the star watchers of Christ?s time with the actual events as they occurred in the dawn sky. The difficulties she encountered during the research are included in the book.

Readers will find text references of the ancient symbolism in the book correlated with endnotes that are listed by chapter. References are listed in the newly published digital book, Unraveling the Christmas Star Mystery, at the URL:http://www.irenebaron.com, and at the end of this press release.

According to Ms. Baron, there were ten major, celestial events announcing the birth of Jesus Christ, the last being the position marker over Bethlehem. The events created what she considers to be the greatest birth announcement in the history of mankind.

Individuals using astronomy computer programs are invited by the author to verify the celestial events she discovered. In her book she identifies each event by day, hour, month, and year.

It has become common knowledge that the star watchers of 2000-years ago studied the sky at dawn. Participating individuals must therefore set the time of their searches to dawn in the time zone of Bethlehem.

It is common knowledge to current astronomers that ancient astronomers, astrologers, priests and cosmologists used symbols and symbolism to interpret star movements prior to the Babylonians of 4,000-years ago.

The movements of the stars and planets in the heavens are precise and mathematical. The author therefore concluded that the ancient star watchers, well versed in mathematics and astronomy, were able to make predictions of star movements years in advance. Ms. Baron stated it is logical to conclude that having advance knowledge is what enabled the entourages of wisemen/magi/astronomers/priests, and their support personnel, ample time to travel from their homelands to Bethlehem in Judea to pay homage to the new God and become, perhaps, the first gentiles to worship Him.

Ms. Baron learned the details concerning the ancient interpretations of symbols and star movements by using abstracts, books, papers, and periodicals concerning ancient history and archeology including studies of ancient writings, wall carvings, art, astronomy, and historical artifacts. As stated earlier, these references are included at the end of this press release. A few examples of the resources identifying the symbols and symbolism of the ancient astronomers, astrologers, and cosmologists and their interpretations include:

Archaeoastronomy and the Roots of Science by E. Krupp, AAAS Selected Symposium 71. Westview Press.

The Norton History of Astronomy & Cosmology by J. North, published by the W.W. Norton & Company.

Echoes of the Ancient Skies: The Astronomy of Lost Civilizations by E.C. Krupp, published by Harper & Row Publishers.

The Reports of The Magicians and Astrologers of Nineveh and Babylon with editor R.C. Thompson, published by Luzac & Company.

The author reports from her research that the spectacular birth announcement events began in July of that eventful year when the ancient ?wandering star? gods Venus, Mars, and Jupiter were closely lined up in the dawn sky. At opposition, they had their full faces brilliantly illuminated like neon signs. Symbolically, astronomers were being asked to pay attention for what was to come. From that point on, significant and spectacular symbolic events happened rapidly.

The author found the ancient dawn sky gods moved in unique ways to help create the impressive Christmas star events. According to her research, each celestial event provided further symbolic evidence that the new God being born on Earth was destined to become the most powerful God of the Universe.

Ms. Baron stated, ?The ancient star watchers were probably shaking in the sandals when they interpreted the phenomenal and spectacular events. The predicted birth of the greatest God in the universe was probably, to them, the biggest event to ever happen on Earth.?

According to her references, the ancient priests and astronomers assigned different attributes to each of the ?wandering stars,? including Saturn. Their various symbolic beliefs concerning the Moon god of knowledge and their all powerful Sun god of creation are also discussed and referenced in the book.

Using references to verify her findings, Ms. Baron explains the specific celestial symbolic interpretations of ancient civilizations including the Akkadians, Asians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Chinese, Egyptians, Mespotamians, Persians, and Sumerians.

The digital book was written and illustrated by the author to enable persons ages twelve and older to understand the information presented. Astronomy knowledge needed to understand the birth announcement events is explained in an easy to comprehend format.

The digital book, Unraveling the Christmas Star Mystery, is available from major electronic book sellers such as the Amazon Kindle Store, Barnes & Noble eBooks, and the Sony Reader Store.

One reviewer reports:

Unraveling the Christmas Star Mystery is a thorough, accurate and spellbinding account of the Christmas star phenomenon based on numerous NASA computer programs, Biblical passages, historical records, illustrations on ancient monuments, coins, and legal seals dating back three thousand or more years. The scientific data with ancient observations and beliefs form a precise explanation of the birth of Jesus and the associated phenomenon of the Christmas star. This text is a good source of information for the scholar, teacher, and population in general. Recommended highly for Biblical Scholars.

She will be glad to answer astronomy questions related to her research. She may be contacted through the email address: irenebaron(at)irenebaron(dot)com.

The public domain, astronomy computer programs were sent to the author by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration education library. She used their computer programs to discover, verify, and report the astronomy events listed in the digital book: Unraveling the Christmas Star Mystery. The computer program titles include:

Carlos Gallastegui: Governor Martin O?malley Announces $84 Million In Investment For Maryland?s Innovation Economy

If you like this article please browse Carlos Gallastegui website for more interesting stories. In addition, please visit Carlos Gallastegui blog for more information!

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) March 15, 2012

Governor Martin O?Malley and Peter Greenleaf, chairman of the Maryland Venture Fund Authority, today announced that $ 84 million has been raised for Maryland?s Innovation Economy through InvestMaryland ? an historic initiative created by the Governor and passed by the General Assembly last year to invest in the State?s promising start-up and early stage companies. The $ 84 million raised far exceeds a goal of $ 70 million and was generated through an online auction of premium tax credits to insurance companies with operations in Maryland. While other states have sold tax credits to fund similar venture capital initiatives, Maryland is the first state to use an online auction to raise the capital for such a program. The inaugural round of investments will be made in innovative companies this summer through several private venture capital firms and the State?s successful Maryland Venture Fund (MVF).

?Today, we are pleased to announce that Maryland has taken a significant step forward in generating capital for our businesses and creating jobs,? said Governor O?Malley. ?For the first time in our nation?s history, a state has successfully held an online auction to raise funds for a venture capital program and as a result, Maryland will infuse $ 84 million in venture capital into our Innovation Economy to create jobs. Our State is well-positioned to be a leader in the new economy as a global hub of innovation ? a leader in science, security, health, discovery and information technology. That?s why last year, together with business leaders from across the State and the General Assembly, we chose to invest in our diverse and highly-educated workforce and the skills and talents of our people for the jobs and opportunity of tomorrow.?

InvestMaryland is the largest venture capital investment in history by the State. The program is being implemented through the Venture Fund Authority and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED).

?I am thrilled with the auction?s success in not only raising $ 84 million for InvestMaryland in this difficult economic environment, but also by far exceeding our $ 70 million goal. I?d like to thank our many partners in this effort ? Grant Street Group, DBED staff, my colleagues on the Maryland Venture Fund Authority and the participating insurance companies for helping to make this auction a success,? said Greenleaf, who is also President of Gaithersburg-based MedImmune. ?I now look forward to putting this capital to work by making initial investments this summer to help build new businesses and create jobs in Maryland.?

?Working together with our stakeholders and insurance companies, we were able to raise $ 84 million and far exceed our goal to fuel innovation and entrepreneurship in Maryland,? said Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Secretary Christian S. Johansson. ?This program brings maximum benefit for taxpayers, helps create the jobs and companies of tomorrow and builds an economic climate where the most promising ideas and innovations have a chance to mature.?

Today?s online auction attracted more than two dozen insurance companies with operations in Maryland, who bid on the tax credits with a floor of $ .70 on the dollar. The 11 companies awarded the credits are Agency Insurance, Chubb, GEICO, Hartford Insurance, IWIF, Med Mutual, Met Life, NY York Life, Selective and Traveler?s. Insurance companies can claim tax credits beginning in 2015.

?GEICO is pleased to work with the State on the InvestMaryland program and participate in today?s successful tax credit auction,? said Mike Campbell, Chief Financial Officer of Maryland-based GEICO. ?Our company is in full support of the positive impact that InvestMaryland will have on companies throughout Maryland in terms of job creation, stimulating private investment and moving our Innovation Economy forward.”

Key tenets of InvestMaryland, Governor O?Malley?s signature economic development proposal last year, have been implemented over the past nine months. In August, the Governor named the Venture Fund Authority, a nine-member panel that oversees the administration and operation of the program. Earlier this year, the Authority selected Grant Street Group to prepare for and run the tax credit auction and also recently selected Altius Associates, a London-based firm, to oversee the selection of three to four private venture firms to invest the InvestMaryland funds.

The private venture firms will be responsible for investing two-thirds of the funds, which will return 100 percent of the principal and 80 percent of the profits to the State?s general fund. The remaining 33 percent will be invested by 17-year-old Maryland Venture Fund (MVF). Over its life, the MVF has invested $ 25 million into hundreds of start-up and early stage technology and life sciences companies, generating a $ 61 million return, 2,000 jobs and more than $ 1 billion in private investment. The Maryland Small Business Development Financing Authority (MSBDFA) will also receive a portion of funds for investment. Returns on the funds invested through the MVF will be reinvested in the program.

Among its benefits, InvestMaryland has the potential to create thousands of jobs in Innovation Economy sectors ? life sciences and biotechnology, cyber security/IT and clean/green tech and attract billions of follow on capital. It mirrors many aspects of a federal program to accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship nationwide, The Startup America Partnership, which President Barack Obama launched year.

The program is one of a number of initiatives Governor O?Malley has introduced to spur innovation and entrepreneurship in Maryland. Earlier this year, the Governor announced a legislative proposal to create the Maryland Innovation Initiative, an historic partnership between the State and its research universities to advance cutting-edge research to the commercial marketplace.

Maryland has an outstanding infrastructure to support an Innovation Economy. The Milken Institute ranks Maryland #2 in the nation for technology and science assets. According to study results, while Maryland received high rankings in human capital investment, research and development inputs, technology and science workforce, and technology concentration and dynamism, it lagged behind other states in risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure, demonstrating the need for InvestMaryland and other programs. The Index provides measurements of the technology and science assets for states, ranking them on their ability to foster and sustain a technology sector, which research has shown is a crucial factor in determining a region’s future economic success.

Carlos Gallastegui: Vanessa Juarez Named New Art Curator of theatre7 in Las Vegas

If you like this article please browse Carlos Gallastegui website for more interesting stories. In addition, please visit Carlos Gallastegui blog for more information!

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) September 28, 2011

For the first six month of theatre7′s existence, Darryl Martin has done double duty as both artist and curator of the art gallery at 1406 South 3rd Street, Las Vegas, NV 89104 in the downtown Arts District. But the quick success of theatre7 has made it too hard for him to do both and after an extensive search, Martin is happy to announce Vanessa Juarez as theatre7′s new art curator.

“I am so impressed with Vanessa,” Martin said. “I think we found the perfect person for the gallery. She brings with her a diverse background in art history from Peru to New York and now she is adding Las Vegas to her resume.?

Juarez, a recent transplant from New Jersey, is also coming off of helping to coordinate the Fiesta Las Vegas Latino Parade & Festival. A board member, Juarez served as curator and organizer of the Latin American Art Exhibit at the event. She is also currently helping to prepare a show for the Hispanic Museum of Nevada’s 20th anniversary gala.

“Community and innovation are my strengths,” Juarez said. “I have a passion for the arts and culture, but I also have passion for people and helping to expose them to new things.”

Juarez has a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J. She also has been certified in the Art of the Incas by the National History Museum of Archeology and Anthropology in Lima, Peru. She also has experience at the Signature Gallery in the Venetian.

Prior to coming to Las Vegas, she founded a program at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York called ?Working Together.? The program was designed as an outreach for first-time museum-goers. It started as a strategy for Hispanic audiences, but was soon extended into a program to reach other minorities as well.

“In these hard economic times with schools cutting funding for art programs, galleries and museums are as important now as they ever have been,” Juarez said. ?Galleries can help share and preserve culture, help educate and overall they can enrich what is being taught in the classroom.”

Located near the “Downtown Las Vegas” sign, theatre7 opened its doors in March. The artlover’s and indie film fan’s paradise is owned by filmmaker Derek Stonebarger and screens independent films, doubles as an art gallery and hosts live theatre performances.

Currently, a stage production of Joseph Scrimshaw?s Adventures in Mating by Poor Richard?s Players can be seen there. The show is scheduled to run until October 2. The second annual underground film festival PollyGrind will then highlight October?s programming.

“I love theatre7,” Juarez said. “It’s so different and it brings so much energy to the downtown area. It’s a place that is open to try new things and isn’t scared of challenges. It’s a great place that is open and accepting of all art and the various communities. I’m very happy to be a part of it.”

Martin said the feeling is mutual.

“She’s a go-getter,” Martin said. “She doesn’t wait for things to come to her; she makes them happen. I really see it as a perfect fit.”

A painter all his life, Martin has lived in Nevada since 1968 and has been a Boulder City resident since 1992. His specialties are expressionist style oil paintings and fine art giclees.

Currently, Martin and Juarez are preparing for theatre7′s next free First Friday art event, which will be October 7 and starts at 7 p.m.

Aside from Martin’s work, the gallery will be showing photographs by internationally exhibited and published art photographer Sita Mae of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Alan Goya of Boulder City, who has had images reproduced in Better Homes and Garden, Sunset Magazine and many others. Martin will be performing a live painting at the event.

Recent Nevada artists featured at theatre7 were Lynne Jordan and Kelly Haugh.

Ironically, Stonebarger’s film I.M. Caravaggio, which inspired him to open theatre7, is what first made Juarez fall in love with the venue.

“I’ve seen a lot of films about Caravaggio, so I wasn’t really sure what I was going to see,” said Juarez of the award-winning film that depicts a character reincarnated as Caravaggio in modern day Las Vegas. “I thought it might be another biography on him. But it blew away all my expectations. It’s already difficult to depict the life of Caravaggio, but tell his story through somebody else in a different place in a different time; it was amazing. It really impressed me.”
